In Chinese philosophy, Yin and Yang describes how seemingly opposite or contrary forces may actually be complementary, interconnected, and interdependent in the natural world, and how they may give rise to each other as they interrelate to one another.
Many tangible dualities (such as light and dark, fire and water, expanding and contracting) are thought of as physical manifestations of the duality symbolized by yin and yang. The yin yang, represented graphically by the taijitu symbol, shows a balance between two opposites with a portion of the opposite element in each section.
This project consists of composites of pictures that symbolize the concepts and ideas of the Yin and Yang, Edges & Dynamic Balance of the universe. In terms of visual design, each image is the result of the collage of four different versions of the same original file. The different variations are obtained by changing the orientation of the original monochromatic image, coloring it and transforming some versions to negative. The final result is a Notan, used as visual counterpart of the concept of Yin and Yang.
